The preparation of the Euro-Mediterranean Sustainable Urban Strategy has started. During the First Ministerial Meeting on Sustainable Urban Development held in Strasbourg on 9-10 November 2011, the Secretariat of the UfM was entrusted with the task of formulating the Euro-Mediterranean Sustainable Urban Strategy with the Senior Official Experts of the 43 member states. The strategy is based on several actions such as: a guidance framework for sustainable Euro-Mediterranean Cities; a call to donors to favor the emergence of sustainable urban development projects likely to be labeled by the Union for the Mediterranean and an award for urban innovations to identify and promote best practices. At the First Senior Official Experts Meeting which will be held in March 2012, the representatives of the 43 member countries with the technical support of the Secretariat, will elaborate the strategy and discuss among others matters, the first draft of the Guidance Framework for Sustainable Euro-Mediterranean Cities, prepared with the contributions and proposals of the UfM member countries, the European Commission and partner organisations working in the field of urban development in the region.
